Hi everyone!
Canadian Living Magazine & Free the Children sponsor annual awards for community advocates - the Me to We Awards. I'm thrilled to share with you that my niece, Hannah Newbury, has been selected as one of the finalists in the "Youth in Action" category. Hannah's nine years old, and since kindergarten has had what she calls her "Penny Project." She collects pennies from various places - church, school, neighbourhood - and then uses the money she's collected for purchasing food either for the food pantry at Wilson Heights United Church or for the First United Mission on the downtown Eastside of Vancouver. She's collected over a thousand dollars in pennies that have gone to feeding those in need.
The Me to We award voting site will be online on April 24th (this Friday), listing the finalists in each category. The winners are determined by the number of votes that each receives, and each winner is awarded $5000 for a donation to the charity of their choice, a spread in Canadian Living Magazine as well as an opportunity to attend Me to We Day in the fall. The voting is open for 2 weeks and closes on Friday, May 8th. I'm dropping you this note to ask you to take a minute sometime between April 24th & May 8th to cast a vote (hopefully for Hannah!) online at
Thanks a ton!
Sharon
